Timeline for an Indian Wedding Reception
Yesterday, in Part 1 of this series, we featured a sample Indian Wedding Ceremony Timeline. Today, in Part 2, we will be focusing on the Indian Reception Timeline. Here is a timeline of events specifically tailored for a Wedding Reception. This timeline will walk you through how to plan your Wedding Reception.
For this post I am going to assume that the ceremony starts at 6:00pm. You can adjust this based on your Reception timings. I have also included some sample songs for the Reception as suggestions.
The Wedding Reception Timeline
Time | Event |
3:00 PM | (1) The wedding planner will head for the reception site. (2) Caterer starts setting up. |
4:00 PM | The florist starts setting the centerpieces and the reception decor. |
4:30 PM | Wedding planner to setup like family pictures, Engagement pictures, guestbook, card box for envelopes, place cards, table numbers, and favors. |
5:00 PM | (1) The DJ starts setting up. (2) The videographer and photographer arrive and start taking pictures and coverage of the set up. (3) The Cake vendor starts setting up the wedding cake. |
5:30 PM | DJ to play for the cocktail hour at the reception location. |
5:45 PM | The reception receiving line with Bride, Groom, their parents, and siblings is formed. |
6:00 PM | (1) Guests are received. (2) Cocktails start and hors d’oeuvres are passed around. (3) The wedding party lines up for the main program and entrances. |
6:45 PM | (1) The DJ introduces the emcee for the evening. (2) The emcee introduces the entire bridal party. (3) The bridal party enters and walks down to music. Song: “Deewangi” |
6:50 PM | Introduction of the Bride and the Groom and their grand entrance. Song: “Stereo Love” by Edward Maya |
6:55 PM | First Dance Song: “Tera hone laga hoon” |
7:00 PM | Father Daughter/ Mother Son dance Song: “What a Wonderful World” |
7:05 PM | Bridal Party performs a dance and music skit for the couple. |
7:20 PM | Dinner is served |
8:00 PM | Champagne is served and the best man and Maid of Honor toast the Bride and the Groom. |
8:30 PM | Cake Cutting Song: “Come What May” from Moulin Rouge |
8:45 PM | Cake and Dessert is served |
9:00 PM | Dancing and Celebration is kicked off. |
11:45 PM | Last dance of the evening. |
11:55 PM | Vidaii. |
12:00 AM | (1) The limo takes the Bride and Groom to the bridal suite. The guests leave. (2) Packing up the gifts in the car that goes to the Bride’s parents’ home. |
12:10 PM | (1) Breakdown. (2) Wedding Planner hands over the payment envelopes to all the vendors. |
1:00 AM | Breakdown is completed with all the trash disposed off and all the vendors packed and out of the location. |
