Featured Wedding of Jasmine and Gautam: “Better Together”
High school sweethearts, Jasmine and Gautam, met (and were eventually engaged!) on a tennis court. Their beautiful wedding took place at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington DC.
Indian Wedding Traditions are fun and lively. The Baraat and Milnis traditions are full of energy and joy. The Baraat starts with drumming of dhol, singing, and dancing – what a perfect way to kick of wedding celebrations!
One of my favorite pictures from Jasmine and Gautam’s Wedding is from the Pokavu, which is a Gujarati Tradition. According to this tradition, the Bride’s Mother playfully pinches the Groom’s nose to gently remind him that he will have to rub his nose on the door to ask for her daughter’s hand in marriage. This gesture symbolizes the Groom’s humility, and that he understands the sacrifices his future wife is about to make as she assumes the responsibility of running a household as a married woman.
I love the color of Jasmine’s Mehendi. It’s the perfect color! According to some, Mehendi signifies the strength of love in marriage – the darker the Mehendi, the stronger the love. It was hilarious that Gautam and his guys, in a reference to the movie The Hangover, had “Wolf Pack” written on the inside of their hands.
Walking down the staircase in the Atrium of the Reagan Building, Jasmine and Gautam made their grand entrance to the Instrumental version of “Stereo Love” by Edward Maya. Their first dance was to Jack Johnson’s “Better Together”.
Jasmine and Gautam chose purple and orange for their wedding reception colors. The colors are very lively, and the the decor looks stunning, where they combined Rangoli made with flower petals for the placecard tables, along with some gorgeous rose and orchid centerpieces.
The mango-flavored cake with henna design looks gorgeous. The couple chose to give coasters as their wedding favors – something a little different, but at the same time, practical.
