Featured Engagement: Arun and Kreso

Arun and Kreso’s engagement session took place at the part of the University of Iowa, where they have been studying and working in the field of chemistry. They both began as grad students in 2005, but it wasn’t until the following year, at a party in 2006, when the two got to know each other.

As Arun recalls: “Kreso and I talked well into the night (well, I talked and he listened) and the next day, I was quite shocked to see an email from him asking me out to coffee. Everything after that, as they say, is history… In those first months, I suppose what most attracted me to him was hi surprising wit. Here was this person I had thought was very serious, and yet he could make me laugh and laugh when I least expected it and most needed it – also how smart he was (is). It’s not boring smartness, either, but an intelligence that wakes me up on the slowest days.”

Kreso also noticed that Arun always was surrounded by interesting people. “After talking to her few times, I realized how funny she is. I was also amazed how many things we can talk about. No awkward silence!”

Sometimes there is no epiphany. Life has a way of evolving over time, and making clear what’s important, as it did with Arun. “In the first months we were dating, the notion of us spending the rest of our lives together slowly grew on me. And while I questioned how we were going to make this interethnic, interreligious, multilingual and multicontinental relationship work in general, I was already – even in those early days – becoming certain that my life would be horribly empty and much unhappier without him in it than otherwise.”

For Kreso, it was the realization of knowing that even after a very stressful and long day, he was still sporting a smile because his day would end with Arun. “And thus far, I’ve never met anyone who made me feel like that.”
